A Playspace Gem in the UWS

It's been a minute since we've gone up to the Upper West Side (is there any point now that Absolute Bagels is gone?!!?!) - I'm the first to admit that I'm happy being in my little downtown bubble.

This past weekend we went to the Play Street Museum in the Upper West Side for our Little Friend's birthday (shout out to amazing Mom, Melanie for such an adorable birthday party!). I wish we had this play space by us downtown, but I'll happily head uptown any day to go again.

Getting there

  • A quick ride on the 2/3 uptown to 96th street and a short walk across 2 avenues. Admittedly, we took an uber because it was so humid and gross this weekend

The Play Street Museum

I'm super impressed with the little world that they have created. There are so many adorable things to play with, from the Garbage Truck to sort recycling, to the big train set in the middle of the space.

They even had a simulation between two 'houses' where you could jump on a zoom call while 'working from home'. Not sure how I feel about that, considering this is all my Little One sees me do at home every day anyway!

After playtime...

  • โ€‹Homegoods: I'm a sucker for a homegoods and since we don't have one down by us, of course I'm going to stop by and wander around. I spent a good 10 minutes convincing my Little One that we did not need a new lamp...
  • โ€‹Sephora: Don't ask me why, but I decided to take my Little One on her first Sephora experience. I'm a little nervous just how excited she was to run around and dance to the music. I also got suckered in by one of the make-up artists who came over and drew a glitter heart on my Little One's hand with an Urban Decay glitter eyeshadow stick.... $26 later, it is now hidden in my apartment ready to come out when needed for bribery

Sure we have some places to shop around us, but it's nice to venture out to somewhere different and it's a bonus that it's a very quick express ride on the subway!

What we are doing this week...

โ€‹10th Annual Greek Jewish Festivalโ€‹

This is our favorite little festival to go to each year that is in the Lower East Side! My Little One loves the dancing and Greek biscuits!

When: Sunday May 11 from 12pm - 6pm

and another thing for this week...

โ€‹Open Stages at Brooklyn Conservatory of Musicโ€‹

Head to Park Slope with the kids to watch 30+ live music events across 16 live stages. You better believe we'll be looking for the stage where the cast of Wicked are singing.

When: Saturday May 10 from 3pm - 6pm

... one more thing for the family...

โ€‹Japan Paradeโ€‹

I don't love Parades, but I do love Street Fairs. The good ones, not the dingy one that floats around the city during the summer.

Days: Saturday, May 10

  • Parade: 1pm - 3:30pm
  • Street Fair: 11am - 5pm

What saved my sanity this week...

โ€‹Happy Me Journalโ€‹

Sure I was a sucker for an Instagram ad and bought this, BUT we LOVE it. My Little One insists on us writing in it every night (even when I'm super exhausted and desperate for her to go to sleep...). It's blown my mind how open she's been, talking about her day and feelings. It's not cheap, but I am sold.

What has Changed my Life this week...

โ€‹Mr Bubble Foam Soapโ€‹

Huge shoutout to local Mom, Divya, who gave us this miraculous thing that I don't know how I lived without until now. Bath times are a struggle over here and I'll try anything to get my Little One into the tub. The second she received this, she's almost running home to go into the bath. It's SUPER fun to play with. A tiny little messy, but way easier to manage and clean than those bath crayons (I swear colors are still stuck on my tiles)...

What we are Reading this week...

โ€‹"Goodnight, Goodnigh, Construction Site" Sherry Dusky Rinker

We received this book in a birthday gift bag two years ago and it's been the best treat we've received. It's a great book to read at night together.
