Anyone else have whiplash from this inconsistent weather situation we have going on?!
The rain, the cold, the humidity... who knows what we'll get. It's made it hard to plan a fun walking day anywhere.
Cue a very simple day making pottery in Greenpoint.
โThe Loft at Wilcoxson Brooklyn Ceramics is my home away from home. I have never been more excited than when I realized my 3.5 year old is finally old enough to bring along to the studio with me and make her own little mugs.
Getting there: Take the East River Ferry uptown from Wall Street to Greenpoint and then it's a 6 minute walk to the studio
The Slip Casting method is perfect for Little Ones
- There is no scary pottery wheel involved!
- We get a mould that creates a flat rectangle shape, then when it dries enough, we use our hands to manipulate it into a cup like shape
- My Little One did a great job of 'painting' them exactly how she wanted them
- We also used cookie cutters to make letters and shapes to stick on
The best part of this method is that the clay is already colored, so you know exactly what the colors are going to look like before it goes into the kiln.
The studio space is big, bright and full of people creating amazing things. My Little One is now obsessed with joining me in the studio when I go!

What to eat afterwards...
Something quick: Tacqueria Ramirez - Amazing tacos that are even better than Los Tacos No 1
Something to sit and enjoy: Chez Ma Tante - Finally open again after being shut for building renovations, their pancakes are amazing but I dream of their fries!
Something you know I'm always going to recommend: Taku Sando - I recommend this so many times that I really need to chill a little!
