Yes... I'm referring to that Pez
PSA - we have discovered the most unexpected and cool 'museum' that's a little over an hour away from us!
The Pez Museum.
Admittedly, I didn't expect to be writing about the Pez Museum this week. I had a whole other thing planned.
But we went to Cape Cod last week and during our exploration through the little shops, my Little One discovered a Witch Halloween themed Pez dispenser that she HAD to have. It ended up being the find of the trip.
Fast forward to us driving back to New York. We planned a stop at the New Haven Duck Donuts (Note: I can be bribed with Aussie style hot cinnamon sugar donuts any day of the week). When we got off the highway, we stopped at a light and I said out loud "How funny - this street is called Pez".... turns out - it was the street to the Pez factory. It was a sign. So of course we had to make a detour.
We were blown away!
Now - I didn't grow up with Pez. My only reference to Pez is that Seinfeld episode.
But they got me hooked with a scavenger hunt. My competitiveness was ignited and I spent 30 minutes running around trying to 'find the historic pez dispensers' to win a prize. I was committed. I actually have no idea what my Little One did while I focused, but apparently she loved the museum too!
Getting there:
- We drove there. I'm sure you could take the train to New Haven too.
The details:
- The entry fee is great value for money. $5 for adults and $4 for kids - then everyone gets a $2 voucher to spend in the shop
- Get the scavenger hunt card and if you find all 8 historic pez dispensers, you get to spin the wheel and win a prize (spoiler - it's a pez dispenser)
- Now I completed this task like my life depended on it... I was little disappointed that they didn't even check my answers when I handed it in!
- I definitely recommend spending your voucher money on the 'make your own pez' bucket at the back of the museum - especially since you 'win' dispensers on your way out.
- We were there on a weekend, but if you go during a weekday, you'll get to see the factory in action. I'm a sucker for anything 'how is it made' - especially the tv show
Verdict:
- Definitely stop by if you're passing through New Haven
- We are definitely stopping there again the next time we pass through. I'm pretty sure my Little One is going to insist on it
