I'm going rogue...

A snow day right after the weeklong school winter break, is just cruel.

You all know my newsletters come out on Tuesdays (... sometimes Wednesdays!). But if you're anything like me and on the brink of losing your mind from trying to work, while also having your Little One at home, I figured this email needed to come earlier - and with things to do today.

I'm close to launching the rebrand of 'What Should We Bake' - part of that is testing a lot of recipes that Little Ones can bake independently (with an adult supervising of course!) What better way to test them, than to host a bake-a-long today on @melissacurmi on instagram today!

So if you're desperate for something to do today with your Little One...

... BAKE WITH ME TODAY!!

Here's what you need for each of the recipes:

  • Better than Ted Lasso's Vanilla Shortbread
    • Ingredients: All Purpose Flour, Sugar, Salt, Butter
    • Equipment: Bowl, Baking Tin (around 9" but anything works)
  • Italian Jam Cookies
    • Ingredients: All Purpose Flour, Salt, Baking Powder, Butter, Sugar, Confectioner's Sugar, Eggs, Vanilla, Jam (any kind!)
    • Equipment: Mixer, Bowls, Piping Bag (or ziplock), Baking Tray, Baking Paper
  • Biscuits
    • Ingredients: Butter, All Purpose Flour, Baking Powder, White Sugar, Salt, Baking Soda, Buttermilk
    • Equipment: Bowl, Bench Scraper, Baking Tray, Baking Paper, Rolling Pin

Are we carbo-loading!?! Maybe...

I tried to choose recipes of things where the ingredients are most likely to be on hand at home so you don't have to trek through the snow for anything. The plan is to bake all three things... but subject to how well the day is going... for me and my Little One!

What we are doing this week

New York Botanical Garden - Orchid Show

I'm a sucker for Orchids and Tulips. After this snow storm passes, we'll be heading up there to take a look. Hopefully the flowers also survive the snowstorm!

What might attept this weekend

Louis Vuitton Pop-Up

I haven't trekked uptown to the cafe (slightly in fear of the tourists), but maybe this one is better if it's in soho? At the very least, it's less of a commitment and can be abandoned if it's a disaster

And another thing for this weekend

He Built This City - Joe Macken's Model

I'm so intrigued. The artist created a 3D replica of Manhattan using balsa wood, cardboard, and glue. Of course I really want to find my own apartment and all the places in our neighborhood!

What we are reading this week

Pinkalicious Phonics

The perfect size book to bring around with you and read to your Little One. Also the perfect size for them to hold. Am I huge fan of Pinkalicious? Eh. But my Little One likes it!

What saved my sanity this week

1000 Pom Poms

I almost regretted buying this bag after finding them anywhere and everywhere my apartment. But with this last week off from school, they have allowed me to drink a cup of hot coffee.

A poster board. Glue. Pompoms. That's all you need for your Little One to be entertained for a solid 30 minutes at least. You're welcome.

What I am loving this week

Yuzu Marmalade Tea

With this cold weather, I need warm drinks and there's only so much coffee I can drink. A bag of green tea and two teaspoons of this in boiling water, is beyond delicious.

In all fairness, I also buy this ready-made each time I walk past Takahachi bakery.

What I am eagerly awaiting this week

Bridgerton - Part Two

Boy do I wish they released Part Two over this snow storm. I'm excited for the second half. Seasons 2 and 3 were fine. This one is great. I also have a little Aussie pride with the main character for this season being from Australia!
