An ice cream shop. Now, you know I'm not actually a huge fan of ice cream, but my mini-me is obsessed. I also needed something to do with her this week after picking her up from Pre-K at 2:45pm... (side note - I have realized that I can't live without aftercare after this first full week of school being back!).
Getting there:
Took the M15 bus to 14th and walked over
I made the mistake of going after school let out
NEVER take NY busses when school let's out
Alternative: Take the 4/5/6 uptown to 14th instead if you're going after school. Yes, i'm recommending schlepping kids up and down stairs!
What to get:
The panna. Whatever flavor ice cream you decide to get, just make sure to have the panna on top. I don't know what it is about it, but it makes the ice cream taste way better. I'm not even a whipped cream kind of girl, but this is just different. I almost want to say it's like meringue and cream, but it's probably not.
I'm a simple girl and loved the vanilla and chocolate. I guess I'm not the best point of reference when it comes to experimenting with ice cream...
What not to get:
Not fair for me to judge, because I didn't try it myself, but it seemed like everyone around me were not finishing the soft serve ice cream. I love a good soft serve, but I didn't get it because it was snickerdoodle flavor which, sadly, is too adventurous for me - hah!
Where to eat it:
There's pretty much nowhere to sit and eat there
Grab a spot on the flower bed and precariously perch yourself on the skinny metal borders! Embrace your core!
Verdict:
It's a decent outing and your Little One (who likely isn't going to deny a trip to an ice cream store)
I probably won't trek there just to have ice cream, but if i'm in the area and the line isn't insane, I would get it again
Chocolate with Panna would be my order too!
Now if you're already in the area...
Friend of a Farmer: Great happy hour if you're in the area (also good bathroom stop!)
Sugarfish: Around the corner'ish and worth going to for lunch if you can avoid peak crowds
Head to Forest Hills Stadium on September 26 for what looks like a pretty cool line up! Not to mention I can go for the afternoon and be home before dark?! Done.
New York Botanical Garden is hosting the exhibit through October 26 - great excuse to head up there and maybe go to Arthur Avenue after for some good Italian food.
This feels like something I actually did in my 20s, talked about doing in my 30s (but bailed last minute), and now - in my 40's - wish I had the energy for.
It's been happening every Thursday of August and September, but of course I only discovered it when the last one is being held this week.
I never have a sharpener around so I have 100 blunt pencils sitting around my apartment.
Enter this impulse buy I found when standing in line at Blick Arts. One week in... I'm sold! Love this pencil. It's fainter than the average pencil, but I don't have to go searching for a sharpener.
Downside is that it was mine, but has been commandeered by my Little One.. so i'll be buying another one.
My third pair (and counting) from Completed Works. I'm obsessed. These are by far my favorite of the three and i'm already eyeing another two designs I want!
When you see me out, you'll notice i'm always in a pair of Completed Works earrings these days!
