Asking for a friend...
I'm done with making resolutions every year. I'm not even going to pretend I even considered making one.
That said, I am trying to do more 'active' things with my little one. Which is near impossible with this brutally cold weather these days.
If you're close to the South Street Seaport though, I have discovered one hack...
The chess table at Kinship.
It's not life changing, nor is it really 'active', but it is only a minute walk from my apartment and they make an amazing oat milk cortado.
I'm not going to pretend my Little One can play chess. But what I do love, is watching her Dad having to play HER version of chess in public. What's her version you ask? Well they play 'neighbors' and each of the pieces 'come over' for play dates... the horsies get into fights protecting the castle and her Dad has to pretend his Queen needs to take a nap...
The plus side - she knows how to set up her side of the chess board without any help. I'll take that as a win.
Definitely get
- For me: Oat milk cortado (bonus they don't charge extra for oat milk)
- For him: Iced black americano
- For the little one: Hot chocolate (made not too hot)
- To eat: The Banderillas (puff pastry with sugar, simple and amazing)
- To eat: The Conchas (I'm always so happy when I remember they're not filled)
Skip
- The pour overs unless you want to spend $12 on one coffee (... not me...)
I love the big windows and natural light in the cafe. The aesthetic is less than family friendly - it almost feels like they've designed it so that kids don't come! It doesn't discourage us though - you're going to see us there pretty much every day while this brutal weather is happening.
