Shouldn't it always be?

Yes. That's me staring at the screen, terrified about what I'm about to attempt.

Shout out to local Mom, Anna, for bringing me to Sweat 440 on John Street, to work out.

I want to preface this is not an ad or affiliate thing (you all know I don't do that!), however how I'm about to gush this place will probably make you think it is.

I haven't done a decent strength workout since my pre-baby days. I used to do Liftonic in the West Village, but there's no way I'm finding time to get up there, work out, get back and look after my Little One.

I still make the effort to get a reformer class in (shout out to New York Pilates), however with perimenopause looming, I know I need real strength training. Not to mention that reformer classes have become incredibly expensive these days and i don't know if I'm getting value for money - well when it comes to actually building muscle.

Enter, Anna. Who not only convinced myself to join her once, but twice! Admittedly, the second time was with 4 other Moms, and I definitely had fomo at the thought missing out on a fun Mom workout session!

That said, I LOVED IT.

So much so that now i've signed up.

Here's why:

  • Classes start every 10 minutes.
    • There's no way I can make it to a workout that starts on the hour. Something always comes up with my Little One, and i'm rushing.
    • At Sweat 440, everyone works through the same stations and they start up to 12 people, every 10 minutes. So even if you're about to miss your spot, you only have to wait 10 minutes to get the next one
  • You do 12 different exercises in 40 minutes
    • There are 4 sections to go through, which each have three stations that you rotate between three times for 30 seconds each
  • The time goes SO FAST
    • You don't have time
  • Everyone does different things because there are so many stations
    • So no one cares what you're doing - they're wrapped up in their own exercise

Is this my attempt to try and build muscle mass and circumvent perimenopause doom!?

Yes.

At least I get to do with 5 other moms in the neighborhood!

What I'm Hosting for the Kids in February

Valentine's Day Cookie Heart Box Build + Decorate

My cookie classes are back!

This time, the Little Ones are building their very own Valentine's Day Cookie Heart Box and decorating them. They'll use icing for glue and plenty of candy to decorate.

If you missed the holidays gingerbread house craze, this one is definitely more fun.

PLUS - they get to take a delicious Valentines Day gift home and fill it with candy and a cute drawing and note for someone... maybe you?!

When: Saturday, February 14 from 10am-11am

Where: FiDi Creatives (106 Fulton Street, 3rd Floor)

What we are doing this weekend...

Magnet Theatre's Bounced - Lincoln Center

A 45 minute play about friends that's good for the family. To be honest, it won me over with the 45 minute timeframe

What I am doing this week...

Winter Restaurant Week

I'm always unsure if it's actually a good deal or not, but i'll be trying some places for lunch anyway. Old faithful, Crown Shy, has a $45 lunch menu that i'll be going back to for sure. Although the sticky date pudding isn't an option... I feel I deserve it after all this strength training!

When: January 20 to February 12

What we are reading this week...

The Silver Spoon for Children

Shout out to local mom, Nicola, who gifted this to us as part of her Little One's birthday last year! Hands down, best party gift bag treat ever!

Not only have we started to 'cook' from it, but it's part of our evening reading. Granted, I insist we're only allowed to 'read' one recipe a night. Makes me hungry after she goes to sleep...

What saved my sanity this week ...

Memory Matching Game

I definitely didn't think my Little One would like this yet, but we ended up playing 7 times in one night.. no tv! It's a miracle. Shout out to local Mom Hanadi, who gifted this to all the kids in our class at school as part of her Little One's birthday. Brilliant idea!

What made me sad this week ...

Pasanella & Son is closing

I've lived in New York for 17.5 years... all of that time I've spent in the South Street Seaport. This week we walked past Pasanella & Son and noticed the sign 'Closing'... to say that we're devastated is an understatement. I'm actually not much of a drinker at all, but this is one of my favorite places in the Seaport. Not to mention how incredibly reliable they are for the best recommendations and to save me in a pinch when I'm cooking and need wine / rum / marsala to cook with.

I feel like I jinxed it by mentioning Trilogy photos last week...

Anyway, if you're looking for discounted alcohol, stop by to pick up some bottles before it's officially closed!
