There is a way...

I'm the first to admit that our 'day' adventures with my Little One are sparse and hardly up to their usual standard with this cold, brutal weather.

That said, I recently re-discovered Economy Candy.

I'm talking about the original location in the Lower East Side, not the small store in Chelsea Market (you couldn't pay me to go to Chelsea Market on a weekend...).

I can't remember the last time I visited, but I was recently on a mission to find specific Valentine's Day candy for the kids to decorate their Cookie Heart for the Valentine's Day classes - I forgot how amazing the store is and how much of a walk down memory lane it is. Even for me, growing up in Australia. Shockingly they had a lot of types of tim tams, which blew my mind.

Here's what I'd do with my Little One next time:

  • Take the SBS-M15 bus uptown to the Grand and Allen stop
  • Walk up Allen towards BonBon (worth stopping in for Swedish candy, but only if there is no line)
  • Continue walking towards Dudley's to pick up a coffee and babycino to go (not to mention bathroom stop if needed)
  • Head to Economy Candy and don't be afraid to spend a good 30-40 minutes looking through all the candy options

Now, I tell my Little One she can choose ONE option, however I'm not exactly going to stick to that rule for myself, which means I'll totally cave when she asks for more!

What we are doing this Friday night

When: Saturday, Feb 7 to Sunday Feb 8

Where: BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music)

Also for this weekend

Animation Film Festival

Another film festival happening this weekend. The line up looks interesting and goes over several days. Indoor films feel like the perfect option for this cold weather

Another random thing for the weekend

Meet the Breeds at Javitz Center

I ummed and ahhed about adding this one, but hear me out. I'm not a huge fan of finding a furry friend through a breeder - my past dogs that we've rescued have been the loves of my life.

That said - I am never getting a dog in New York - it's impossible for me. But the idea of the Javitz center being full of all those dogs, makes me excited to take my Little One there, just for the experience alone.

What saved my sanity this week

How to Draw So Many Things

We received one of these books in a birthday gift bag a year ago and it is the gift that keeps giving!

So much so that now I bought the full set. It's been fun to pull out at the restaurant or waiting at the doctors - where both myself and my Little One attempt to improve our drawings.

What I we are reading this week

Little Blue Truck's Valentine

Admittedly, I haven't read it yet, but I did order it. I'm a sucker for a pretty hardcover and a theme that's on point.

Valentine's Cookie Heart Decorating

Take-home Cookie Heart Decorating Sets

After a number of lovely messages asking for a more flexible way to join in, I created an at-home option!

By popular request, I'm putting together some take-home sets so you can decorate at your own pace. Now your little one can recreate the Valentine's Day Cookie Heart Decorating Sets at home!

What is included:

  • Bottom Heart Cookie
  • Three Side Heart Cookies
  • Top lid Heart cookie
  • Assorted candy and sprinkles
  • Piping bag with royal icing
  • Step-by-step instruction cards for grown-ups and kids

Prefer your Little Ones to decorate with others?

We upgraded to a slightly bigger space, which means we were able to open up a few additional spots for the in-person class

  • Saturday, February 14 from 10am-11am
  • Cost is $49 per child
