So. Much. Snow.

As an Aussie who did NOT grow up with snow days, I was enamored by the idea of having the day off from school to play in the snow (all because of an episode of the Simpsons).

What I didn't anticipate was the amount of planning, layering and negotiation required to actually get my Little One out of the door - followed almost immediately by a meltdown because the "snow is attacking my eyes".

If this past weekend left you stuck indoors, trying to figure out what to do next - I feel you!

A couple of friends messaged me for recipes to bake with their Little Ones while stuck inside. So here is my small contribution to our community.

An easy, low-stress recipe to bake with your Little One - something that gives the day a bit of structure, a clear beginning and end and a finished thing to be proud of at the end.

This cake come straight from Allegra Bakes a Cake, the children's book I published over a year ago - and I promise, its simple, fun and very forgiving.

What we are doing this Friday night

K-POP Demon Hunters Big Kid Movie night

The rainbow play space is holding a movie night for kids aged 3-7. If you only knew how many times we've already seen this. I am not sure I'll be leaving my Little One there, but I think I can rally to watch the movie one more time... Thank goodness I love the music.

When: Friday, January 30 at 5:30pm

Where: Rainbow play space (343 10th Street, East Village)

And another thing for this weekend

HM Nabavian (a secret yarn store)

I've started to "teach" my Little One to knit, so we're going on an adventure to find this secret yarn store in midtown!

Knitting is definitely teaching her (and me!) patience.

Also for this weekend (if not too cold!)...

Indoor playground at the Met

Did you all know this existed? I didn't! I'm not sure it's enough to get me trekking through slush to visit... but I'm willing to brave the cold to get out of the house.

Another random thing for the weekend

Squash tournament in Grand Central

Just the fact that there is a squash court set up inside Grand Central is enough to convince me to want a ticket.

What I wish I part of when I was younger

Girls go Explore

I may have aged out of this demographic, however I love the concept and idea. I wish I had it when I was younger and have been getting all my 'younger' girl friends to go! The next event is January 31 for 'Write your future' evening. Personally, I'd love to go on the walks!

What I am obsessed with

Heated Rivalry

Okay. A week ago I couldn't understand why there was so much hype. Then I watched it. Two times. Yes, I watched the full season two times and am already thinking of watch it again. The acting and storytelling is phenomenal. The ending of episode 5............. I will be reading the books now.

I'm sure you've already heard, but fair warning, it's not something you can watch with the Little Ones around.

What crushed me this week!

Prue is retiring!

Huge Great British Bake Off and Great American Baking Show fan here.

Prue retiring is HUGE - she's a baking icon (who btw, also chose to live separate from her partner in houses next door to each other - my idol). She's in her 80's so I guess I was expecting it eventually! Still feels too soon.

That said, the fact they've got Nigella Lawson to replace her. Icon for Icon. I dare say, is Nigella a bigger deal than Paul?!?!
